Leptin the satiety hormone, the reason why you keep eating (or not)
Are you always surprised that you are hungry again very soon after a meal? This is partly due to a vicious hormone substance called Leptin. We have neatly listed the current scientific insights into this substance. At the end you can read how you can influence your own Leptin levels, so read on quickly!
What does leptin do?
Strange but true, leptin is produced in your fat cells. The more fat cells you have, the more leptin will be produced. huh? But then people with obesity should be saturated very quickly and for a long time, right? Unfortunately, this is not the case, your body can also become resistant to this substance. This means that with large productions of leptin, your brain will no longer process it and your appetite will therefore not decrease. That is why it is very difficult for obese people to lose weight. They will not or hardly feel satisfied due to this resistance.
Influence
There are several reasons why it is produced more or less in your body. For example, if you are in a hurry, you will eat faster and chew less. Maybe you recognize it, you just had a quick bite from the station and at the next food stall you're hungry again. Conscious and slow eating ensures that you stay saturated faster and longer after the meal. If you don't do this, the effect will be the opposite.
Where is leptin the satiety hormone located
Do you like eggs, meat, fish or maybe legumes? Then you're good. Protein in particular has proven itself when it comes to increasing leptin sensitivity. In addition to those new gains, protein can also ensure that you lose your fat. A nice win-win situation!
